Connecting with other vegans or vegan groups can be helpful for information, support, sharing, recipe sharing or local restaurant recommendations. The American Vegan Society is a nationwide organization, and members receive their quarterly newsletter. Many vegetarian clubs have vegan events, and there are also many informal Yahoo groups and Meetup groups for vegans.

Vans US Open of Surfing 2017

The Huntington Beach Pier will soon make some new friends- actually, a few hundred thousand new friends.

2017 Vans US Open of Surfing has already declared the south side of the pier, marking the fifth straight year of the Orange County-based skate company the world's largest action sports festival.

It formally kicks off on Saturday, July 29, and rips through Sunday, August 6.

With a continued focus on its core, the nine-day family-friendly, community sports competition welcomes the world's biggest popular names in surfing, skate, and BMX. More than 300 world-class athletes and over half a million spectators are expected to attend. Alongside the sports action, Van Doren Village will again play host to art exhibitions and hands-on creative workshops, Steve Van Doren will resume his usual post behind the community grill, and Vans Movie Nights return to Pier Amphitheater.

Fun Facts: Happy National French Fry Day!

Because it is National Fry Day here in the USA, There are some fun facts about this delicious snack.

1. French fries are not French at all; the French fry originated in Belgium, the little country between France and Germany.
2. French Fries have many names, from chips in England, to pomme frites or frittes in France, Belgium, and Germany.
3. Different countries eat fries different ways. In Canada, poutine (which are fries topped with gravy and cheese) is practically a food group; England loves their Malt Vinegar, Australia loves there fish and chips which are fries to us here in the States and places in Europe love mixing their ketchup and mayonnaise together. 
So in honor of this fun day, enjoy the best way you like to eat French fries. Maybe you love just plain o’ fries or you love to add BBQ sauce or hot sauce to them. Enjoy!

Intuitive Eating: Baking Ballerina 

Baking, I’ve discovered over the years that it brings me joy and the sweetest kind of healing. 

The notion that baking could provide a form of therapy has been around for years, and growing up as being a professional ballerina for the NYC Ballet at age 14 brought upon a very strict food regime. Baked goods was such a “no-no” and have been restricted all my life from these foods. Until recently, it has become even more important to dive into baking and eating foods I naturally enjoy. 

Baking demands exact measurements and ingredients, and doing things at a slower pace can help you feel calmer. Baking also provides a sense of aromatherapy,  the smell of baked goods.. these kinds of scents tend to boost positivity and relaxation. 

Following a recipe is wonderful, but one of the best parts of baking comes with the decorating portion of the project where creativity comes into play. The opportunity to express yourself (yes, even if it’s just with icing) can improve well-being as well as your ability to communicate.
