We are fascinated with how the decision is made of what to wear on your wedding day, and so in the spirit of all things, bridal, we share our dress story with you today!

Everyone approaches their Special Day differently, so the fashion and style decisions could not be more different for different brides. This was a time ultimately our top priority was to make amazing memories, and to start the dress journey with an initial visit to a local Indian bridal shop, BEAUTY Dreams Collections. Several shapes and styles helped narrow down what we were looking for. We narrowed our focus to a red wedding dress instead of a white one, and we planned on having an Indian wedding which it is common for the bride to wear a gorgeous red dress for Anand Karaj. We found the dress during our second appointment at Dreams Collections in Little India, in Artesia California.

 

Indian Bridal Outfit

The most memorable part of an Indian wedding is witnessing the beauty and elegance of the Bride on her special day. With all the sparkle glitz and glamour going on around her, the Bride maintains to be the central focal point of the wedding day. The Bridal Saree or Lengha is decorated with embroidery and intricate designs, making for an eye-catching and exquisite piece of design.

 

Different regions in India require the Bride to wear certain jewelry or wrap her saree in a specific manner. It is common for Bride’s to place Bindi’s, circular diamond, red or white , above the eyebrows, however the area between the eyebrows remains empty until the wedding ceremony; the Groom places Sindhoor, red vermillion, here during the wedding ceremony. The Bride’s hands and feet are decorated in Mendhi, completing a head to toe transformation for the blissful day.

 

 

Punjabi Bridal Suit

The Sikh wedding ceremony is known as Anand Karaj which means blissful union ... Most women will wear traditional Punjabi dress in bright colors or gorgeous crimson red. Punjabi Brides wear a Salwar Kameez, an extremely opulent pant suit, or lengha. Traditionally, Punjabi Brides are said to wear gold jewelry, however with changing times various styles of jewelry as been adapted. The bride wears white and dark red bangles made of ivory known as Chooda.
In Gujurati weddings, Brides typically wear a Saree however it is tied with the Palav, the rest of the Saree material that isn’t wrapped around the Bride’s waist, facing the front.

South Indians on the other hand wear different type of Saree made of silk material with gold bordered lining, a more traditional take on Bridal wear.

 

Hindu Bridal Wear

The traditional Hindu Bride is said to wear a red outfit symbolically referencing the planet Mars. According to astrology, Mars is the planet in charge of marriages, representing prosperity and fertility. Bridal attire is the bride draping her Saree which is wrapped around the waste whereas a lengha is a skirt that you can slip on.
